Vice President / CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ Professional

Zachary A. Meissner, ChFC®, CLU®, CFP®

zmeissner@pcrg.com

Zach was born and raised in Seattle, Washington and attended the University of Washington Foster School of Business for his undergraduate education.  He joined Pacific Capital Resource Group in 2008 and currently serves as Vice President. Zach holds a number of designations for demonstrating in-depth knowledge of complex planning issues including the Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC®), Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU®), and CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERTM Professional (CFP®). He is a “30 under 30: Millennials in the financial and insurance industries” as selected by LifeHealthPRO Magazine.

Areas of Specialization & Philosophy

Zach’s practice predominantly focuses on serving the needs of affluent business owners through a holistic planning approach that includes tax mitigation, business transition and succession, executive compensation, retirement planning, estate planning, and high net-worth risk management. “Business planning” typically focuses on planning for the employee group through tools such as retirement plans and group benefits; but more often than not, specialized planning for the ownership group is not given the attention it deserves. Many business owners know they eventually need to reap value from the business either along the way or upon eventual sale of the business. Most do not have a plan in place for how best to go about doing this in the most tax efficient manner possible.

Zach works with these business owners focusing primarily on the ability of the owner to extract maximum value from their company through intelligent financial design. Many small business owners spend the majority of time improving the operations side of their company, without ensuring that the financial aspects of things are well structured. This often leaves them exposed to unforeseen risks or leaves them paying more than their fair share in taxes.

With the role of leading Pacific Capital Resource Group’s advanced planning group, Zach’s team focuses on delivering business planning services at the highest tier of knowledge, experience, and service. Comprehensive planning areas include:

  • Advanced tax efficient wealth building strategies (your 401k is not going to cut it)
  • Executive benefit planning (selecting and rewarding key employees)
  • Business transition and estate plan unification
  • Risk management & premium finance (have the bank pay your insurance premiums)
  • Business valuation & determining what sale value is necessary for retirement

 Personal Interests

Zach has remained active for over a decade with his collegiate fraternity, Sigma Phi Epsilon, serving in a mentorship role for undergraduates on the alumni board.  He is also a member of the Free and Accepted Masons of Washington and the University of Washington Alumni Association.  Zach pursues a number of other passions, most notably music production, skiing, reading and writing, cheering on the Seahawks and UW Huskies, and adventuring about the world. He is a proud member of the Fred Hutch Innovator’s Network.

If you had a million dollars to spend, what would be the first three things you would buy?

If I had to ‘spend’ the money and couldn’t save any of it, I would buy a boat, a muscle car, and waterfront vacation property free and clear.

What’s the most likely place people could find you on a Saturday night?

On a Saturday, you will undoubtedly find me surrounded by our close friends and family. The activity itself might change, but the company rarely does.

If you had a million dollars to spend, what would be the first three things you would buy?

Travel, travel, travel! I would travel as long as a million dollars would last.

What’s the most likely place people could find you on a Saturday night?

I'm out dancing salsa!

Which would you pick: Living on the beach or living near the mountains?

The mountains are beautiful, but as a lover of fishing and watersports, the beach is the way to go.

Imagine being approached by a genie who offers you three wishes. What might those wishes be?

I would wish for a photographic memory, perfect balance, and a live-in sushi chef.

If you had the ability to travel back in time, what’s something you would tell your 18-year-old self?

That hair color looks terrible on you.

Learn More About Me

If you had a million dollars to spend, what would be the first three things you would buy?

I'd buy a home in Arizona with a pool, indoor basketball court, and enough room to sleep both sides of the family!

What’s the most likely place people could find you on a Saturday night?

Watching a sporting event (college football, basketball, baseball) after a day of hiking or skiing.

Which would you pick: Living on the beach or living near the mountains?

We are spoiled to live near the best snow on earth in Utah, so I'd probably pick a second home near the beach!

Imagine being approached by a genie who offers you three wishes. What might those wishes be?

Continued good health for my family, an unlimited travel budget, increased peace and understanding amongst society.

If you had the ability to travel back in time, what’s something you would tell your 18-year-old self?

Trust the process and believe in yourself - being uncomfortable is the best way to grow.

If you had a million dollars to spend, what would be the first three things you would buy?

I would buy a vacation house and embark on a year-long tour of Europe and Asia. I'd buy a winter home in Arizona and a sport court for my kids.

What’s the most likely place people could find you on a Saturday night?

If it's a Saturday during football season, I'd be in the stands at a UW football game or watching college football.

Which would you pick: Living on the beach or living near the mountains?

I would pick to live near the mountains, unless the beach option is on a river with great fishing!

Imagine being approached by a genie who offers you three wishes. What might those wishes be?

I'd wish for great health for my family and friends, that my children have long wonderful lives, and that UW wins another national championship.

If you had the ability to travel back in time, what’s something you would tell your 18-year-old self?

All the best stock tips for the future!

What’s the most likely place people could find you on a Saturday night?

Either at my kids’ hockey or soccer games or at home in front of a TV watching college football.

Which would you pick: Living on the beach or living near the mountains?

The Bay of Kotor in Montenegro combines the best of both – mountains and beach life all rolled into one, set against a magnificent landscape.

If you had the ability to travel back in time, what’s something you would tell your 18-year-old self?

Physical fitness is the foundation for not only physical health but also mental health.  Travel the world starting now.  There is so much to see and only some much time to see it.  Traveling showed me that those with so few material items are often the happiest.  We don’t have the monopoly on the best way to do things.  Lastly, it makes me appreciate so many of the things that I take for granted at home.  Book your ticket!

Learn More About Me

If you had a million dollars to spend, what would be the first three things you would buy?

If I had a million dollars, the first three things I would buy would be a long vacation to Tahiti, build a dream house on a big piece of land, and buy a vacation home in Hawaii that my entire family could spend time at!

What’s the most likely place people could find you on a Saturday night?

On a typical Saturday night, most people can find me at home, having family/friends over for a dinner and game night!

Which would you pick: Living on the beach or living near the mountains?

I would definitely choose a beach! I love the beauty of mountains so I’ll be sure to choose a beach with mountains in the distance.

Imagine being approached by a genie who offers you three wishes. What might those wishes be?

I would wish for family to stay healthy and live forever, someone to do my hair, make up and pick out my outfits every day, and to be able to travel the world for a few months each year!

If you had the ability to travel back in time, what’s something you would tell your 18-year-old self?

I would tell my 18-year-old self to enjoy every moment and not worry about trying to plan out your future so much - everything will always work out! Also - enjoy alllll the cheese and ice cream, because soon your body will decide it can’t handle it anymore!! Ha!
